Chairman, Macquarie Asset Management
Martin joined Macquarie in 2004 to support the growth of its international infrastructure funds management platform. Helping to establish and manage Macquarie’s flagship European infrastructure funds, Martin directed a number of landmark transactions for the business, including the acquisition of Thames Water, the largest water and wastewater company in the UK.
Martin was appointed Head of Real Assets in 2010 and led the world’s largest infrastructure manager as it expanded into new sectors, markets and real asset classes. In 2018 he was appointed Head of Macquarie Asset Management (MAM), where he led a team of more than 1,900 people managing over $US420 billion of assets on behalf of institutional and wholesale clients around the world.
In April 2021, Martin stepped down as Head of MAM and became Chairman of MAM. He remains on the Investment Committees of MAM’s regional flagship infrastructure funds and is Chairman of the NYSE listed infrastructure fund, Macquarie Infrastructure Corporation (MIC).
Before joining Macquarie, Martin worked for 18-years in the utility and energy sectors. Martin was a senior director at TXU Europe Group, an energy services business involved in generation, supply and trading of electricity and gas. He started his career at Manweb, the regulated power distribution network covering the North West of the United Kingdom.
